The building conditions assessment and the preparation of measured drawings are the first steps in planning a building conservation, restoration, or rehabilitation project. The conditions assessment is also a valuable means for a building owner to establish the condition of a building and budget for maintenance and upgrades. Assessments are often limited to the building envelope – roof, walls, and foundations. They can also be comprehensive, including all mechanical and plumbing systems as well as interior structure, finishes, and features.
